New cars save you money at the gas pump. Unfortunately, today's current global economy means that gas prices have never been higher. As a result, demand has grown considerably for fuel-efficient vehicles. This year, a number of competitive small cars have been released that help set a new benchmark in expected gas mileage. With hybrid models now available in almost every vehicle class and the introduction of electric vehicles like the Nissan LEAF and Chevrolet Volt, new cars have the potential to save you hundreds of dollars each year in gas prices.

New cars come with bolstered service plans. Many automakers are beefing up complimentary service plans for new vehicles as an added incentive for purchase. For example, Toyota recently announced its ToyotaCare program. This program includes complimentary oil changes, tire rotations, inspections and roadside assistance for the first two years or 25,000 miles of ownership.
 New car prices are more competitive than previous years. It's no secret that new car sales have fallen in recent years. Due to this, carmakers have been forced cut prices on many vehicles. Brands such as Volkswagen have announced marketing plans that involve dramatically reduced base MSRPs for many models (the new VW Passat comes with a base price $7,000 below the previous model). Additionally, the introduction of several all-new car models into top vehicle classes has increased the competition. This fact has also spurred automakers to price cars more competitively.

New cars are more distinctively styled. The idea of unique styling has filtered all the way down to bargain vehicle classes. Well-reviewed examples include the asymmetric Nissan Cube and quirky little Mazda MAZDA2 hatchback. Even models with a more reserved styling history, such as the Honda Accord, have received minor updates that help distinguish it from the competition. Brand-new models that ratchet up the styling quotient include the Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Sonata and Chevrolet Cruze.
